All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement that you will receive upon booking confirmation or when collecting your vehicle. This agreement outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your responsibilities related to the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement is the definitive document.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To hire a vehicle in Southend, you must be at least 21 years old, though age limits may vary depending on the vehicle type, with possible extra charges for drivers under 25. A valid, full driving licence suitable for the vehicle category is required, held for the duration outlined in the Rental Agreement. You must also present valid identification and proof of your current address, along with payment details and a security deposit. Any further requirements will be detailed in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be arranged via our website, over the phone, or at our Southend location. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The remaining balance and a security deposit are usually payable upon collecting your vehicle. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT as applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, securely processed through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection, a thorough inspection of the vehicle is required. Any pre-existing damage must be reported right away. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and signed by both parties. Please return the vehicle in the same condition as when it was collected, accounting for standard wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charges will be applied as necessary. Ensure the vehicle is returned with the same level of fuel it had at collection; refueling fees will be charged for any discrepancies. Late returns may result in additional fees, so please inform us as soon as possible if you anticipate a delay. You will be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or charges incurred during your rental, along with an administrative fee.
5. Coverage and Responsibility

Additional insurance options may be offered to limit your financial liability. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You will remain liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess amount unless you have purchased additional coverage. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For detailed information, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Please be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rental Vehicle
- Use of the vehicle for any unlawful activities is prohibited. Engaging in racing, rallying, off-road driving, or other risky behaviors is not allowed. The transportation of hazardous materials is strictly forbidden. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is unacceptable. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is illegal. The vehicle must be used only for its intended purposes, without exceeding passenger or weight limits. Travel outside designated geographical boundaries requires prior permission.
Breach of these terms may lead to immediate rental termination and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed under English and Welsh law, Car Hire in Southend is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our maximum liability for any claims is limited to the rental amount paid in the last 12 months. This limitation does not apply to claims related to death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.
